Security Council

The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.

Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year.

Disarmament and International Security

The DISEC is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly that deals with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community and seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime.

Special Political and Decolonization

The SPECPOL is the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly that considers a broad range of issues covering a cluster of five decolonization-related agenda items, the effects of atomic radiation, questions relating to information, a comprehensive review of the question of peacekeeping operations as well as a review of special political missions.

Legal Committee

The United Nations Legal Committee is the last of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly. The Sixth Committee is the primary forum for the consideration of legal questions in the General Assembly.

International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). Its role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.

 

Historical Security Council

Within Model UN, the Historical Security Council is essentially the same thing as the Security Council; however, instead of debating current disputes, the HSC debates historical disputes at the time they occurred.
